I didn't like any plans for stools I found, so I created the following. Enjoy,

Brian, Nice looking work. BTW, I've been instructed before that one should keep thier email address off of the posts, since this is how spam emailers find thier victims.

Looks Nice.
Will it hold up to the weight without the support between the first and second step?

Judging from the title of Brian's post I would guess that it's Oak.

Thanks Ryan for the email tip. And everyone for the kindness.
The timber is Red Oak, natural oak stain. I have not clear coated it yet because my honey needed it in the kitchen before it was finished.
As to the support, the steps are supported by the sides. I built the sides like this
_______

| |______

Then set the steps on both sides. There is a board between the two sides to keep everything square. I weight 170 and I jumped up and down on it several times and not so much as a squeak, so I am quiet happy with it durability.
If you will give me a day or two, I will draw up the plans in Visio and you can get a better idea and offer any supporting changes which anyone thanks it will benefit from.
Thanks,
Brian
