I had had enough of sanding, so I grabbed this lump of Camphor, cored it and decided to turn a footed bowl. See Ken, I can actually turn to an idea:;

It is not gallery quality as it developed shakes, cracks and started to move whilst on the lathe.

This is more of "I want to turn something" bowl, incorporating a smooth transition from the inside wall to the dished bottom and to see what the shape looked like.

Size is small, 225mm x 110mm x 12mm. Finish is 4 coats of DO burnished in.

A lovely bowl, but I think the foot lets it down.

I do like this Camphor you guy's keep getting hold of. Fantastic grain and colours. Does it also have a scent?

(Camphor to me = Moth Balls!)

This Camphor has the smell, it cleared mine and my pups noses. Sneezing puppies is not funny, especially if one puppy doesn't care what you are doing in "their" shed as long as you are there with them.

The "Foot" - my wife likes it and it was part of the reason in turning the bowl.

The Origin of the Camphor - Local, I think, from a mate in the wood club. It is not as full of colour as some I've turned from the north of NSW. I have also had some local Camphor that is an insidious pale colour :yucky:

Ken W. said to say VERY SUBTLE Cliff. But he agrees.

And get back to sanding, Pat.

That's not a foot, it's a yard. Very nice piece. I like it.

So is it the bigger the lathe the littler the bowl?

oh wate did that lathe cope with a bowl that big?

hey doing stuff of that big size Pat do we take it to mean your going to take you pen turning?

think Mel might have some little bits of wood that fall off when he cuts Big boy size bowl blanks you can use:U
