View Full Version : where can i by a 3 or 4 inch diameter dowel

i probably could turn one on the lathe i don`t really have a good lathe im trying to make a boiler for a model steam engine i had found one once but the place closed down i want to make another steam engine model it makes it easier for me when the dowel is already round thank`s in advance hournpout

Hmm, never seen a dowel that big, try a garden centre for 100mm posts or Bunnies for posts

I think he's in New Hampshire USA, so no Bunnies. Fence posts are probably pressure treated; not so great for model building.

You don't need a really GOOD lathe to turn a large "dowel," unless the bearings are shot.

A wooden rolling pin is about 3"".

Some baking and confectioner's suppliers may have large round wooden rollers, I have a couple that my grandfather used to use for rolling out sweets when he had his own manufacturing business.
