Haha!! John, do not have to twist my arm about giving up work haha !! but unfortunately money from pens is more money for pens and does not pay the bills.
But I must say the thought of giving up work and making more pens does excite me :D

Cheers
Tony.

Woohoo!
Wife sent me a text message while I was at work the other day that said, "Were you expecting two packages?"

Sam's packages both came at the same time, and I'll tell ya....it was like Christmas again!
So without further ado!
My new prize....

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c271/SDB777/PITH%20pens/PITHPenfromSam003.jpg

And he was kind enough to send along a huge amount of great timber....
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c271/SDB777/PITH%20pens/DSC00947.jpg

I'm hoping to learn some info on the pen timber, he did say it had 20 coats of WoP for the finish...and the photo's don't really display the true shine coming off of it.

BTW, had to fight the wife off it this morning...she has this thing about it being her new pen?

Thanks for letting me be apart of this event!
Scott (I'm truly humbled) B

Hi All,

Also received my Australia Day 2012 pen swap parcel from Peter (USNR'03) from Virginia.

Nouveau Sceptre roller-ball unfortunately I am not sure what timber has been used so maybe Peter can shed some light on the matter for us all.

The pen does look fantastic though and I am looking forward to trying out some of the pen blanks Peter has sent also.
Very much appreciated Peter and the pen will become along with Alexanders who was my other Australia Day 2012 swap partner another one of the very first pens to start off my very own personal Pen collection.:2tsup:

Thanks
Tony.

Tony,
The blank is a Maple Burl, Sorry 'bout not mentioning in the package. I'm glag you like it. :B

I think our swap pens crossed paths over the ocean somewhere in the past couple of days. I got word from Kelvin that he received my swap to him yesterday.

I received my swap from him, this a.m., Tycoon RB turned in Red Mallee burl along with some unnmamed timbers which will come in usefully.

Kelvin made mention of the fact that I have more grandchildren than he has turned pens. Considering that, he has produced a special pen for me! Thanks, Kel!

Just realised I haven't posted a photo of the pen I recieved from one of my Offical swap partners - Frank contatcted me first ...so no chance to cross lines here :B

MarineRaider (Frank) sent a few extra blanks to stop the Fountain pen from rolling around - the large piece is Olive from his sons tree. and the blank on the pen has FANTASTIC colour (pitty my camera work doesn't show it properly

Thanks Mark for the comment on the color of the pen I sent you. Just for the record the timber was of Chinese Spitache, and from Lodi, Calif. USA It was a wind blow down from a storm in 2010. Can't waite for a pen from him as it will be my first trade with Australia.

My pen came in from aussiepens (John Evans) and what a beaut it is:wink:

This Australian Elegant Beauty is made from fiddleback Tasmanian blackwood, and although the picture does not do it justice, the amazing grain in this pen seems to just come alive as the pen moves. I am not sure of the finish but I will guess WOP. Let me know if I am correct John.

There is also a rather awesome selection of pen blanks I can't wait to turn:D

John, I sure hope you enjoy the package I sent as much as I know I will enjoy this one.

Regards,

Kevin

P.S. I cannot seem to upload photo's at this time, I have sent a request to the webmaster for enlightenment:( I will get them on A.S.A.P:)

Hi All,

I arrived home last night from an interstate business trip to find both my Australia Day 2012 Pen swap partners parcels waiting for me.
This one was from Alexander (Vallealbert) from San German Puerto Rico.

The Rollerball pen is a Retro Rhodium plated and is very well dressed in a Cuban Mahogany Crotch timber.
Alexander has advised me that all of the timber blanks are also native of Puerto Rico and all very nice.
Absolutely stunning pen and blanks.
Very much appreciated Alexander and the pen will become one of the first pens to start off my very own personal Pen collection.:2tsup:

Thanks
Tony.

Tony, I'm glad you liked the pen and the blanks... it have been a great pleasure to swap pen and blanks with you... your pen will be greatly treasured!! I still owe you post some pics of the pen you sent me...I hope during this week. Take care and enjoy your pens.

I have over a hundred blanks in my shop that origionated from Alexander. He has some of the best product out there. If you live in a climate that is dryer than a coastal area such as Calgary, i might suggest Arizona, Let the would dry out for a period of time. I know most know this, but many don't

Got my parcel from Esta today.
Nice rollerball in a box and wrapped up in a tie died silk hankie and some great burl blanks - hard as hell.
Esta also included some extras such as coasters(also wrapped in silk) and some Melbourne souvenirs. The tie dyeing reminds of years gone by.
Will post some pics over the weekend.
Thanks Esta, nice to have had a creative partner.

Mike, I am happy to hear you recieved my pen, I was expecting it would take a bit longer to arrive.
The pen is a Spring Blossom from Timberbits.
The timbers are Cooktown Ironwood, with Silky Oak strips, these were cut to show quarter-cut fiqure, the black bits are styrene. Its finished with CA.
The Silky Oak came out of some boards from a house my Grandfather built in the 1940's, so it has some special meaning for me.
This is the first pen I have done in this style, I like to do a prototype pen for the pen swaps I do, to try something new, just have to hope they go as planned, I was happy with this one, I hope you like it too Mike.

I have no idea what the wood i or what most of the blanks are that he sent. I only recognized 2 names on the blanks. What is Waddy wood? The pen I recieved is a Jr Gent FP with one of those unknown woods on it. I am truly pleased to get this package as I enjoy getting blanks as much as pens. Some day I will turn all of the blanks I have gotten or go broke trying. Thanks

I was stunned when I opened my box this weekend. Simply amazing. Des was kind enough to send me not only a fantastic Brown Mallee burl Sedona for myself but also a gift for SHMBO. My wife promptly adopted her new Mangrove wood Sierra with a clip jewel. She loves it as do I mine.
The fit and finish on both pens are first rate. And the CA coating is like glass. I mean like perfectly smooth.

To top it off along for the ride came 7 VERY nice blanks of various species including red mallee, burl, mangrove, Huon pine, brown mallee burl, Western Myall, River red gum and Black oak, plus 2 cool acrylic blanks.... Like I said WOW :2tsup:

But wait thers more! In his note Des says that I have another box coming :oo: Castables and natural edge items that customs might delay.
As a caster I am super excited to get my hands on them.

Thank you Des it was a pleasure to trade with you.

Also included was an excellent selection of timber blanks, terrific, I am really looking forward to wrapping them around some nice pen kits. Thanks Landon excellent package :2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

I went to the Post Office today hoping I had a parcel, and sure enough, Mike in Nanaimo's package was waiting for me.
I had to pick my jaw up off the ground when I opened it and saw what was inside.
What a beautiful pen, a Cambridge in Birds-eye Yellow Cedar Burl with a Bubinga Celtic Knot on the cap, to top it off there was a keyring made out of the same timber, and a really nice selection of blanks, along with a beautifully written "Certificate of Authenticity" for the pen.

Thanks Mike :2tsup:.

Jack Tar mailed a box of goodies on Friday Mar. 2 and miraculously it arrived today, Mar 9 in central Canada. Got to be some kind of record.
Anyway this box contained some wondrous stuff. First there was a great looking gift box and two mementos of the Australian Navy, a Key Ring and a Medallion.
http://www.woodworkforums.com/members/65191-workinginwood/albums/workinginwood/8192-jack-tar-aussie-swap-2012-mar-1-gift-box-australian-navy-key-chain-medalion.jpg

When I opened the gift box I found the central theme of the whole package. Two great pens!
http://www.woodworkforums.com/members/65191-workinginwood/albums/workinginwood/8193-jack-tar-aussie-swap-2012-mar-2-gift-box-open-two-great-pens-were-hidden-inside.jpg

First Anthony has paid tribute to the Canadian Colours with a beautiful Chrome Cigar in brilliant pearl and white acrylics.
http://www.woodworkforums.com/members/65191-workinginwood/albums/workinginwood/8194-jack-tar-aussie-swap-2012-mar-3-anthonys-salute-canadian-colours-chrome-cigar-pearl-white-red-acrylic-barrels-very-shiny.jpg

Second was the masterpiece. An Elegant Beauty (I think) with kangaroo motif and segmented barrel. I really like the natural feel of the finish and the texture Anthony achieved on this pen.
http://www.woodworkforums.com/members/65191-workinginwood/albums/workinginwood/8195-jack-tar-aussie-swap-2012-mar-4-great-segmented-pen-segmented-barrel-wonderful-natural-feel-finish-texture-well-done-anthony.jpg

Absolutely great work Anthony! Don't change anything.
http://www.woodworkforums.com/members/65191-workinginwood/albums/workinginwood/8196-jack-tar-aussie-swap-2012-mar-5-another-shot-excellent-segmenting-job.jpg

In the bottom of the mailer was a couple small bags of native wood blanks. I had explained to Anthony that I was getting away from the acrylics and experimenting with natural or minimum finishes on wood.
http://www.woodworkforums.com/members/65191-workinginwood/albums/workinginwood/8197-jack-tar-aussie-swap-2012-mar-6-wood-pile-also-mailing-box-1-2-tasmanian-myrtle-3-burl-coolabah-shows-unnumbered-blank-poor-shot-actual-figure-4-spalted-sassafras-5-hairy-oak-6-camphor-laurel-7-8-huon-pine-9-unknown.jpg
#1 and 2 are Tasmanian Myrtle Burl
#3 is Burl Coolabah (number or great figure not showing in photo)
#4 is Spalted Sassafras
#5 Hairy Oak (very striking)
#6 Camphor Laurel
#7 and 8 are Huon Pine
#9 ?

As if all this was not enough, Anthony included an Australia game for me to learn (and bilk the locals). TWO UP

A very generous package filled with wonders from a distant land. Thank you Anthony, I couldn't be more pleased. The pens will have an honoured spot in my growing collection. It has been a pleasure and I hope you like your forthcoming (it's in the mail - honest - it is eh) as much.
Carry on.

Thanks so much for the swap and thanks to the organizers!

I received a beautiful pen yesterday from MSGMP - WOW I love it!

I am unable to name the kit used but it is lovely - the pen is made from Logwood Burl and aluminum accents.

There were also 4 blanks included - Figured Crotch Walnut, Jack Daniel's Whiskey Barrel, Bolivian Rosewood and Padauk. I am going to enjoy making those up (but as the temp is up around 35ºC again .. even more in the shed) it won't be in the next couple of days!!!!)

Thank you so much MSGMP - I hope my parcel doesn't take too long to reach you.

I received this excellent writing instrument from Andrew (Firefighter Sam) As you can see the fit and finish is spot on. I believe it is a Statesman II FP, complete with a cartridge, and converter. Also a beautiful selection of timber blanks. It is always a pleasure to participate in the Australia Day pen swap, as I always receive nice things like these. :2tsup:

Thanks Andrew!

Just in from JustTurnin just superb, blown away, absolutely stunning, He has the poor end of the stick, I win out, Amos:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup::)
Following explanation by Chris
The kit is a Big Ben Rollerball and the wood is Texas Water Oak Burl with the Wormy holes filled with Black Epoxy and copper shavings. The finish is CA, a lot of CA. I don't count the coats I measure the thickness which is .15mm thick after finish sanding.

This was the first pen off my new lathe and my first pen to turn between centers instead of a mandrel.

There is one blank in there that is a surprise. It is the Solid black one. There is a 'gator jaw bone in there. Make sure you use sharp tools on that one and sharpen often. After turning my 1st gator jaw I bought a carbide tool. Also there is a Jack Daniels Whiskey Barrel blank in there that goes with the Certificate of Authenticity, I hope you saw that and did not trash it :-) It was wrapped in some plain white paper, I need to invest in some bubble wrap....

I've just received my parcel from GeoffW89. An absolutely beautiful fountain pen which I think may be Red Mallee burl but I'm waiting for Geoff to confirm. It is an absolutely perfect fir and finish and will be a treasured pen in my collection (and my first fountain pen since school days - now that's going back!!).

There are some very nice blanks to go with it. Photos will come sometime on the weekend.

Let me just say wow. Amos, you have really out done yourself here. I could not believe my eyes when I opened it up. I am not 100% sure what the kit is but Amos sent me a fun riddle to help figure out the wood type which is Coolibah Burl. It has a bit of Bark on it which really looks great. I love the look of Sap/Heart mix. This pen is just too much and I could not be happier. Thank you Amos!!!!

I am still working on my pics but I think they came out ok, then again I don't think a bad picture could be taken of this pen.

Posted this by mistake in last years forum so reposting it here.

Yipee the parcel arrived today. Great looking Roman harvest rollerball in Huon Pine. I'd been comtemplating getting some of these kits, after seeing one in person I will be getting some. Along with the pen were 4 nice blanks and a case from Brett Hammond. Another successful swap completed.

The closed end is the one I sent Brett he received it a while ago but hasn't posted it. It started out as an El Grande dressed in Elm Burl. also sent him som local Canadian blanks but didn't take a picture of them.

I recieved my goodies from Trevor yeserday,
I never knew that Maple ( I think ) could look so good a pen and pencil finished in what is the the highest standard I have ever seen, I think its a CA finish . After seeing these pens I will have to hurry up and get the windows into my shed and try CA again.
The blanks great great but already SWMBO has put in her bid for the whisky barrel.
many thanks Trevor for the great swap and also thanks for the people whom without their time these pen swaps would never happen201494

Well, Finally getting out of the hospital after 3 months I have the pens and pen blanks done for HazzaB and Christos. Since Christos will be gone for the next few months on vacation I will show what I made him.

The first pen is made of an acrylic I made for this. It is white and purple swirl, made with a Comfort pen kit. The second pen is made from a nickle 30.06 shell and a copper point of which I hand made the whole thing. The blank is Whitetail Antler from what my daughter shot last year.

Last attachment is a bunch of pen blanks which 2 of the segmented blanks I made from Maple/Purpleheart/Blackwalnut cut 3 ways and then cut at 45*

I hope Christos enjoys them when he gets home. I am not going to show what I did for HazzaB. He can take the photoes himself.

Cheers

Well my second swap just arrived, a Sierra dressed in cross cut red cedar from Buford's grandfathers yard, logged about 60 years ago. A fine pen and will be treasured.

There is also a fine selection of blanks.
