Although Ray may not believe that.

I bought this today for $65 (I may have been able to get it cheaper but I was going to be near the seller anyway, so I figured it wasnt worth an 80 minute drive to save $20)
Its all looks to be in very good nick and very Mitutoyo except the "see-saw" part. To make it grip the dial gauge it has to be done up very firmly and the paints not the best. I wonder if it might be non genuine?

I'm glad it went to a good home Stu.

I had that saved in My Ebay. The seller stated pick up only but he did have some plastic cases that he would post which didn't make a lot of sense.:doh:I let it go because I have a Starrett equivalent which funnily enough I used this arvo.

Still, I'll take it off your hands when you grow tired of it.:U

Hi BT,
Thanks for leaving it for me :D
I didnt know I needed one until I saw yours.
I think I might have to put the clamp in a vice, close my eyes, give it a squeeze and hope it doesnt crack as I'm not sure how long the M4 thread would put up with being done up so tight. :(

Stuart,

I think you might have a "problem" perhaps an intervention is called for....

Is this the same Stuart who picked up 20 or 30 dial gauges from me a few days ago?

Just kidding, looks like it's a useful addition to the arsenal... :2tsup: go easy with that vise.

Regards
Ray

For the benefit of the Great Unwashed, what is the focus of this instrument?

You could shim it with a beer can.

What?!

Nice score Stuart, :2tsup:
Kraits sent me a few of those with some other gear before Christmas that he picked up off a friend ( Thanks Kraits), handy additions.

I know it will burn the paint, but I would heat it before hand.

BB,

They allow for the deep insertion of the stylus into a hole. I photographed a couple of the setups I used last night to gauge the spindle runout of my drill. I used My Starrett version of Stu's indicator to do so. I will post a couple of photos tonight.

HI Guys,

Sorry I left you with the impression that the vice would be my first port of call. I did some measuring and found the clearance was something less than 0.05mm, so i didn't think that was the problem. Further playing around and measuring........ Some paint in the last couple of turns of the thread..

Must have been some other Stuart Ray, sounds like he has a problem ;)

As Stuart said... a few more can't hurt..... :D

It was a case of "grand theft ebay"... not in GQ's league, but not far off.

There were a few gems in there, and some of the better ones have already gone to good homes.

What troubles me is that Stuart is still out there buying yet more dial gauges... Might be time for another support group... "How to resist ebay bargains"

Bryan,

Stu's Mitutoyo is an oriental version of Starrett's No.196 universal indicator. They are rear contact type indicators. The 196 see saw can reach inside a hole 1 5/8" deep.

The other conventional indicator is fitted with a Starrett hole attachment, achieving the same result.

I was hoping Stu could be lured in by the shiny bits.

Thanks for the photos Bob i now understand the use for this attachment. I also have what i believe to be a mitutoyo version.

Hi BT,
Great pictures. I like shiny bits :)
The Mitutoyo has flats on the dial guage end of the arm.
If they made the arms a little different (a U section around the arm) the arm could go into the bore as well. As it is if the bore was more that about 30mm the arm would go in.

Thanks Bob & Stu. Neat idea, and not that hard to make. Another one for the future projects file.
