Firstly thanks to the people who have replied. It is great to exchange some ideas. My Hartley 18ft is coming along. The boat was sitting on the side of a hill and as such the keel is not exactly vertical to the boat. Is this a major problem ? If so what is the suggested remedy ??Thanks again

Interesting!
If you mean the boat has been built with the keel a little off vertical, then it's probably not going to affect seaworthiness, but don't expect to win races against finely tuned versions of the same hull!
On the other hand, if the keel has moved after the boat has been completed, you've probably got more problems on your hands than its worth. That would mean the whole of the structure has been pulled out of whack, and you should have some very unusual bumps and hollows on the hull!!
If the keel piece itself has warped - no problem.
Providing it's not the major structural thing, and the keel timber is stable, you could plane the acute angled side to match the other, if that makes sense!

Do or did they actually build boats (half cabin) hartley with offset keels ?
