Framer/stappler/bradder ???

Hi All,

As a new memeber to the site I have been reading a number of past posts regarding nail guns, stapplers, bradders, etc....

I've recently started an Owner bulder project (split level concrete slab done so far), extending a couple of new rooms onto my small existing home.

As someone who has not previously used any of the air/gas nail gun products before, my question is can I purchase one gun which as suitable or capable of doing multiple tasks. I'm wanting something for frame construction (treated pine), cladding (external pine boards) and gernal mixed fixing. Does one magic tool exist for a numer of different applications?

You can purhase a coil framer that will also do decking, weatherboards, braceply and fasten blue board,ceramic tile underlay etc but it is very expensive and requires a special compressor (Max Powerlite System)
For general fixing work you will need to purchase a dedicated air or gas fixer.

There's no magic tool for ALL of that, but you can probably get away with 2; a framing gun for the big stuff and a 16 gauge finish nailer for almost anything else

I wouldn't get a coil nailer, the nails are very expensive and they can be temperamental, although they don't need a special compressor, any compressor that can run a normal gun will run a coil nailer. I would be looking for a senco, or bostich and if you can afford it a paslode.

You can usually able to pick them up second hand in good condition for a reasonable price.

I have an old bostich framer, and a senco 16gauge angled finisher as they are easier to position in tight corners. I also have a cheap 18 gauge nailer and stapler as the don't get the use of the other guns.

I'm in the same postion as Douglas, I think you're going to need 3 guns, fixer, framer and coil gun although some coil guns can do framing but I have heard conflicting information about how well they perform framing tasks.

I need to clarify my other post.

Specialist is right.Most coil guns don't need a special compressor.They will operate on any 100-120 psi unit.
However most coil guns can't be used for framing because they will only take a maximum nail length of 65mm.
The MAX coil nailer I was referring to (MAX HN75) is more versatile than most as it takes nails from 32mm-75mm.
It takes 75mm wire collated nails which are only marginally dearer than paper collated 75mm strip nails.
It also operates at 400 PSI and is therefore much lighter and smaller than most other nail guns and hence needs its own compressor.
As mentioned earlier it can also be used for ply bracing,decking,weatherboards,cement sheet etc eliminating the need to buy another coil nail gun.

MAX is one of the oldest tool companies in Japan and aren't that well know in Australia
but have an excellent reputation worldwide.
Lastly I have no affilliation with MAX Australia but am just a very satisfied MAX user and find it more useful than your average strip Framer.
