....around 4" dia finished with DO. It has a foot that I am not altogether happy about, probably remove at some stage.

Thanks for all the positive comments. Heres a shot of the foot, I am still not 100% on it.

Good looking piece. I think it needs the foot.

I would consider trimming the foot by half, that will give , the appearance of the bowl floating , with just the smallest of lift .

See what you mean Hughie.

Maybe a tripod foot contrasting timber

Hughie, what about machining the foot off and fitting three or four short (20mm) stumpy dark legs?

I think legs are the way to go. The whole problem stems from what originally was intended to be done. That was to cut spirals in it and so the shape was not spherical as this improves the look of spirals.... usually :). If it was round or spherical then the feet would not be needed, but its got a squat bum :C and so it needs something to lift it.

Dunno what would be easier reshape the bum round or carve three feet. Carving will be slower and perhasp the feet may not be quite high enough. But then reshaping will need a major re-hash of my donut chuck to accomodate this smaller than average shape.

I shall resort to my usual method, and leave it to sit on the shelf in the office and look at it often till something gels. Some folk call procrastination, me 'no damn idea' time. :U

Hello Hughie,
I like the hollow form. Very well executed and I am like minded like you, a smaler foot or no foot would most likely look better. But on the other hand if you turn it off you can not put it back again.

looking at it this morning I think I need to rechuck it and improve the curve at the bottom to make more spherical. This part annoys me somewhat and then see what the foot looks like. I suspect it will be too high and no foot may get the vote.
