Hello everyone
Have a bit of a odd question, not sure if its been put out there before
Is there a attachment ( tool rest) out there that you can bolt to a metal lathe so you can turn bowls etc on it
I am sure someone's going to say metal for metal & wood lathes for wood
But it doesn't hurt to think outside the box every now and then :q
Thankyou in advance for any feed back
Cheers tony

This is what I did on my 10 inch swing South Bend Heavy 10. I would do the area in front of the tool holder then move the carriage.

I have turned metal on a wood lathe using a high speed steel scraper, file and emery cloth. See below for wood on a metal lathe.

A good vacuuming and oiling after you are through. I have seen photographs of big metal lathes used to turn marble columns. See:

You can, and if its the only lathe you, well then, not a lot of options. :)

But to keep the metal lathe in good condition involves a lot of cleaning and oiling each time. I would get sick of it in the end

Carbatec sell a tool rest for their metal lathes, it would be a matter of looking online to see if one would fit yours or make one up to suit. When you are finished wood turning make sure to clean the lathe down and spray some anti rusting agent on the ways and bed.
