I've got some blanks and tubes glued up, that I was doing for the Vietnam Vets batch.
Alas, too many things have gotten in my way to get them finished.
I will endeavour to get them finished in time for the Christmas batch.

Hi Branka

I think we need to make the cut off around mid November to allow time, it can take up to 6 weeks for the mail to arrive, although at Christmas they open more post boxes.

I have some cut and ready to start turning as soon as i get a chance

Hi Sam,
The Ararat RSL Club makes grants available to community Groups.
So I decided to apply for a grant to purchase pen parts for the Troops, 200 and was successful.
This was done through the Ararat Woodies Club then 10 of the members have made 10 pens each and these have been posted to Sam today.
The remaining 100 pens will be made for Anzac day next year.

Hi Sam
I sent some pens on the 14th - tracking number 10302677830094 - so they should be there real soon. Then I flew to Melb - contemplated taking them part of the way and mailing but didn't know how easily I'd find a post box at the show grounds. Surprised I didn't see you all at the big horse event over there - Equitana!! :D:D:D Hopefully they'll be with you real soon.

Unfortunately I did not get mine done for xmas, should have done them before going o/s. I should have learnt by now that retirement from the mainstream work force does not necessarily equate to more shed time. Especially disappointed as my younger brother is currently on his second tour there, what a nice coincidence if a pen of mine had found him. Anyway I will get started on having them ready for the next lot.

A great job by all those involved, a superb effort, and special acknowledgement to you Sam for taking it on again and making it the success it is, cheers, Des :2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

many thanks Des, you are not the only one that retired and found he had no time. There is always next time so don't fret too much and hopefully your brother will get one of those already sent. If he does not let me know and I will organise one for him.

Another two boxes were sent yesterday making the weight total of 13kg and well in excess of 300 pens thanks you all very much

Attached is a letter Amos has just received

I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan, and, I was given one of your beautiful pens. I just want to let you know it gets used on operations and every time I look at it, I'm reminded of home. The timber takes me to the bush back home, and gives me hope that I'm doing the right thing over here. So thank you.

Im employed to RAAF bomb disposal and my home unit is 2 Airfield Defence Squadron, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight. If I ever get the chance to stop in at Ararat RSL, I'll be sure to try and meet someone from the Pen Turning section and spin em over a schooner or two.

Kindest regards.
