My Model #1680 scrollsaw quit working. I unplugged it, pushed the restart button and tried to start it again. It wouldn't work. There was a slight hum from the motor but no blade action. Simultaneously the light went off and I couldn't get it on again. What could be the problem?

Can you move the arm of the saw by hand, or is it jammed. If the motor is trying to start and the arm is jammed the motor will hum.
Motors on scrollsaws are generally very small in capacity so it would not take a lot to stall it.
Another thing could be the capacitor may be faulty.
If all else fails take it to your local service agent or power tool repairer.
