I was thinking of having a get together at my place on the Queens Birthday Weekend - 9/10 June. However it could be too soon after 's hugely sucessful "glitter-fest", so I have decided to put it to a vote.

Possible topic could be what finish to use, Glow, Wipe on Poly, Danish Oil etc.

Never too soon but I won't be there, I'll be at the wooden boat raid on Tinaroo. :)

We could have had a day 2 & a day 3 at 's place.

John,

Either Saturday or Sunday is fine but not the Monday. Add Minwax Antique Oil to compare with Danish Oil.

Peter, 9/10 June is Saturday/Sunday, and I did put etc. at the end of my topic suggestion. Etc. is Latin for "I know there's more, but I just can't remember". :D

Peter, 9/10 June is Saturday/Sunday,

John for us retirees every day is a workshop day but that Monday afternoon I have to go to hospital for an overnight sleep test.

Btw when I was at school I read Julius Ceasars book "The Gallic Wars" in it's original latin but I seem to have forgotten most of it. :D

Sorry John, not a hope. That is the week before Q-Turn, so I will be busy packing and getting things ready. But I probably won't be back until Oct at this stage, although current knee issues (Went to the doc on my knee this week, ligament snapped :C) may also change things.

As there has been virtually no interest in this Get Together I think I will have to cancel. I need to give 1 months notice to get time off work and as I work Sundays I would have to give notice for time off before Thursday. Unless there a heap of positive responses before this time (Midday) Wednesday 9th May, it's off.

OK it looks as though there's enough interest to go ahead.
THe following people have indicated interest:
Peter (Sturdee) & Michelle
Fly

Tea Lady
Pagie

With myself included that makes seven. Not a huge turnout, but you don't need a big crowd, just people with open minds and willing to share knowledge.

My initial proposal of covering vairious finishing techniques was not meant to be set in concrete and may have put some people off. Tea Lady has indicated she would like to have a play around with my Escoulen Chuck, that is certainly doable.

Perhaps we could have a comunal effort at doing a Three-centre spire box from Chris Scott's Turned Boxes book.

This also is not set in concrete, please put forth suggestions on topics to be covered

Thanks Fred.

B/ville Tk is now open. There are various state road condition report websites, and it's a tangle up at the state borders. SA does it well, NSW OK and Qld, for reliable info on local roads you have to find the local shire and then its website and hope they post info or reply to emails. Amazingly re the latter, I got an immediate reply to a query on Sat about Birdsville (take a bow Diamantina Shire!).

We'll get to Tibooburra in NSW later in the week and check the updates before making a decision.

Meantime, anyone turned any Waddi? Sounds wickedly dense. (Maybe I should take camo gear and a bowsaw).

..........Meantime, anyone turned any Waddi? Sounds wickedly dense. (Maybe I should take camo gear and a bowsaw).Horrible to work - hard, brittle and splintery - but beautiful colour. Best way to get it is take some railway line with you - the cockies will let you replace posts and rails in the yards and keep the Waddi they were made from. Apart from that every twig is under surveillance!!! :;
