Hi Folks,

About four months ago I set off to build a wooden gear clock based on Brian Law's Clock #7. I have most of the parts made, and I'm starting to put the clock together. The last piece that will be cut is the clock dial. I'm toying around with a few different designs, and I'd like to get folks opinion on what dial looks the best.

The dial will be white, made out of Pine or Aspen, and the numbers or lines, will be cut separately, painted black, and inlayed in to the dial.

Attached are some pictures, please let me know what you think...comments and suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Shawn

The clock looks great Shawn. I like either dial 1 or 2 or a mixture of the two with numbers 12, 3, 6 and 9 added to dial 1.

I agree, just the 12,3.6 and 9's. leave the others as the lines.
Not keen on the italic fonts in pictures 3 and 4. The font it ok but not italic.

If you really want to confuse people reverse the position of the numbers , Ie 3&9 and 6&12,.

Seriously , yes that will look good.

Great idea...I think if I was going to keep it for myself, I'd do it....but the person getting the clock might not appreciate it too much. :D

I prefer the first pic, without numbers at all.... after all, we know what the marks correspond to....

Yer but think of the fun you'd have watching people trying to work-out the time!!!:D

If you make another clock , it might be fun, or make a 2nd face for the 1 you are doing , so the owner can change them over :rolleyes:

I would defiantly have some fun with it. People would think it was doing some sort of very complex time keeping, they might not even question it! :-)

It's also a good way to keep track of time in two different time zones! :D
