Mitutoyo Digital Indicator Problem.

I have a Mitutoyo 543-135B Digital Indicator which has started to go black across top edge and top right corner of LCD screen. Not used for a while and was stored away in a drawer. So what caused this and is it posible to repair. New LCD screen? Still works perfectly and can still see all numbers.

They are agents for Mitutoyo and do have a large stock of spare parts, and a repair service.
