Jim Grant 16th May 2012, 12:28 PM I'm planning to build a corner, entertainment unit that will hold the TV, Set Top box etc. etc. It will be in the sitting room and I want to be able to move it out from the corner to get behind it occasionally. I have been looking for really low profile castors to allow me to do this without having the unit raised up off the floor too much. After a number of trawls through the Internet they seem to be in very short supply except for steel ball castors which I think would scratch the laminate floor. Has anyone found or used such an item?
Sir Stinkalot 16th May 2012, 12:47 PM Is it possible in your design to recess the castors up slightly higher (ie a concealed internal box sort of thing) than the bottom shelf to allow for the full height version?

Images show how I did it. If you look at the image 1 in the room, you will note there is a 5mm gap between the plinth and the floor.
In image 2 of the underside note two flat pieces each side of the middle. This is where I put the castors- from memory white urethane about 45-50mm. non swivelling.
The castors are directly under where most of the weight is. It's very easy to pull away from the corner for cleaning and connections etc.

The answer from Conwood is just right for me. I'll put the castors on then measure the clearance of the skirting pieces to allow for easy moving.

Back awhile ago, we had trouble with out Kitchen Chairs on our Lino.
Was told of these Objects from Bunnings, which were round 30mm. ? 5mm. high, drilled a small to take a screw, & whamo.
You could swear they had castors on them. Can move a Chair now with one finger.
They are a Silicone type of Object, & come in various sizes.
Now these are NOT those carpet type of things.
You will be able to move that E/C with one hand
I think I paid approx. $9+ for a set of 4.
I found you have to look pretty hard to find them in the Store, & it is better to ask.
These beat Castors by miles. To late to go to the Shed to find right name, but I will do it tomorrow.
They are made of Teflon/PTFE+EVA, and called Easy Slide Guides.
