I have been building a box for the tools I made as an apprentice 41 years ago (See here) (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f87/my-next-box-151629/)My Grandfather a woodwork teacher use to have his apprentice students incorporate two pieces of raised beading into the lid to act as supports for light planks of wood when they were sawn, these beads were raised clear of the raised panel and were fitted between the lid and the dust seal the beading went all the way through to the be supported on the frame of the box.

Any how I emailed Chris Schwaz some pictures and details and he put it all up on his blogg HERE (http://blog.lostartpress.com/2012/05/22/using-your-tool-chest-as-a-sawbench/#comment-9037).

Aren't family stories fantastic!

A bead all the way around would double the usefullness (and the fame of the ancestor) - rip and crosscuts would be possible without moving the chest through 90 degrees! A great nexus of form and function.

Cheers,
B-D.
