I purchased on e a year ago and I was not aware that there was a clutch, sure it is not in the cable extension. Contact Bosch for more info as they are the agents.
Hope this is of some help.
I have performed some engraving but not with an extension and I have not had any tool problems (just operator who has trouble holding it steady)

I have been given a Dremel Moto tool with a variable speed function for a birthday just recently,with a flexible cable that attache's to the tool.Imagine my surprise to find that the machine had a clutch that made engraving almost impossible.As soon as you apply any pressure to the item to be engraved the tool stops.Can any body suggest any other reason to have the function of the clutch apart from burning the material at hand with perhaps light carving in mind!!

Cheers Iain, no the tool stops whether or not you use the cable extension or not.It's only when you apply pressure like in application of the tool.I will take your suggestion on board and take it to my local bloke for a check just to make sure,but it appears asd if it has a clutch type of arrangement.

An update on the Dremel and an interesting point to raise for those of you interested.

Took the Dremel back to place of purchase and was replaced with no probs!


But according to the dealer who had it checked out and an interesting point is that there is a soft plastic tube with serrations on the inside of the tube that slides onto the geared shaft of the business end of the motor with the other end sliding onto the chuck end.This is a protection to stop the motor burn out thru applied stress where the plastic will give out first.

Apparently the one I was given had a faulty tube not enabling the chuck to drive.

Sounds like your first chuck was OK, but was it overarm or underarm towards the bin. Good to hear all is well and it didn't really sound like dremel.

Fellas. Bunnings have Dremel kits with lots of attachments for $158. Hardwarehouse $159.

Thanks for the info Iain,it makes you wonder who has the wrong end of the stick in regards to prices if you can access from one place something with a saving in that regard.
Or are they(other suppliers) playing the rest of us for a charlie with a mark up on their gear.
