Fellas, it has become apparent that I should start selling off duplicates etc in my shop in preparation for a probable shift offshore. If we go I am going to sell everything including all tooling, machines, books etc. keep an eye on the stuff for sale section.

Come on Gregory, stay put and keep the stuff.

Anyway, they won't make bib and brace overalls in your size so what would be the point of heading off to the Apple Isle....

How many camelbacks you got?:U

Those words bring to mind a group of vultures just sitting around a carcase just waiting for someone to start the feeding frenzy.
I don't like going to clearing sales for the same reason. A person's life is spread out to be sold off to the ever present vultures.
Greg I hope you deeply consider your decisions while you get ready for your move

Will all prices include flight rust?

I hope that includes selling all your textile equipment as well! Wouldnt be fair to only sell half.
Sadly looking forward to looking at your pretties.

If we do go anywhere at this stage it'll be either Tokyo**or the middle east, depending on who can use me. My employer has decided that circling the drain is a valid marketing ploy. I don't reckon I'll have a gig here in 12 months based on current trajectory.

If we do go, it'll be in suitcases. Everything else will be sold.

**wanted: Geiger counter and three life vests.

GQ

Just so everyone knows what's going on here, and so I don't look quite the idiot, I made a joke about binning my stuff instead of selling it, not unlike a member famous for such sentiments on another forum that most of us also visit. Fair enough that the mod does not want to lower the tone on this board, and won't tolerate mud slinging. Good. That's not what I was doing, but I guess that mud is in the eyes of the beholder. Fred, I didn't see your previous post regarding this issue, so I object to be scolded like a school boy. If something has you that incited kindly add it to the rules and make a sticky about it. Over and Out.

There won't be much flight rust I hope. At least not for free. That stuff doesn't happen overnight you know:2tsup:

LOL. You'd be surprised. They have to make them in "union heavyweight" size in case one of them has to actually attend a job site:U

Three camel backs and a parallel type. But they will be in the last group. Right now I am just cleaning out the stuff that I can do without in any event.

Oh, and I will list things whenever I am home...probably something everyday next week.

Gentlemen, I am disappointed that after the last round of having a go at members on other forums I have had to remove yet another reference to a member on HSM.

Could I ask, once again, to refrain from doing that? It is neither funny, nor do we want it here:no:

You'll need to wear a tea towel on your head and eat sushi to work out which one you like better.
May help with the decision of where to go.

Actually, giving up on Oz is going to be much harder. if we do go I'm not sure when or if we'll return. :C

I got a call today about flying some Middle Eastern potentate. They didn't say what they wanted him flown into :tapedshut:

Where's the little vomitting emoticon?

It is a bummer when any person has to move etc because of our industrial problems in this country. All the best in your new adventure and I hope all goes well for you.

Greg, I've certainly enjoyed reading your posts on here regarding your endeavours. Will be sad to see you have to give up your kit. Aviation can be a bugger of a game - should stick to the vintage and GA scene; not much OS demand for those of us working with the greasy rattly piston things :D
No chance of finding another employer closer to home?

Preening my feathers in case nonetheless...

Greg,
all the best for your future!
I sincerely hope we don't loose you here as a valued contributor and inspirator. What a bummer!
Surely even aviation in Aus will need people with your experience?
Be nice to live somewhere else for a bit every now and then, but to loose your hobby and to have to start again somewhere - god knows where - must be just a horrible prospect......
Whichever way to choose to go, all the best!

Just to be clear on this, my once proud company is not suffering from industrial problems, but rather from rapacious and/or inept management. Seniority systems would require me to start at the entry level elsewhere here, hence the offshore focus. My dituation is the too common lament of an old school employee faced with being made redundant at the peak of his powers. Maybe a little past my peak, but you get the idea.:B

The way I see it Greg, the one thing you won't be able to get rid of is the friends and mates you have made on this forum. Hopefully I am one of those. I know I regard you as a mate. I just couldn't face the prospects you have in front of you at this stage of your life. A mate of mine was made redundant and found he couldn't get a job because he was 'over qualified'. He can't even dig ditches as they figure he will be asking for a pay rise once he starts. He is an 'A' grade special class electrician and has to contemplate early retirement.
I hope it all turns out how you want it to Greg and don't be a stranger if this all comes to fruition.

Don't go Greg!
Get a normal job like the rest of us; fly crop dusters out of a place that most of us have never heard of or even go domestic! Pete doesn't say much any more - we need someone here to inspire us with that glamorous jet-set lifestyle.

It is a pity you have to be forced to move but entirely understandable considering the industry you're in. I have some relatives who either retired early while they could, or moved overseas years ago for better opportunities in aviation.

Seniority systems make no sense and never have made any sense. Their only reason for existence is to protect mediocrity.

Going o/s isn't a bad thing though. I certainly never regretted going to work in the USA for a while.

I suggest you pick Japan. There isn't really much radiation to worry about and the climate both political and physical is better than the middle east. Besides, I have plans to sail up there in a couple of years and might need a place to do a refit.....

Pete didn't say ANYTHING any more as he got fed up with being harassed by a few forum members who really should think seriously about spending more time working in their workshops and less time at their keyboards working on their post counts!

As is Greg, Pete is similarly battening down the hatches and brushing up on his arabic; another skilled tax payer about to head on a one-way boat northward. While it's all out there in the public domain, clearly most in the public don't have as much interest in the topic as Greg and Pete. The bottom line is that a very few at the top are aiming to make themselves wealthy beyond imagination, are being assisted by their puppets they placed in senior positions, and if it means destroying a national icon in the process? ... who gives a toss. The egos of a few drag down that around them. Now, were have we seen that before?

You are not going anywhere, unless of course you're going to take over from Alan Joyce!.

Where on earth will we get a perfect coffee, sipped out on the balcony talking engineering pornography? You are irreplaceable my friend.

No, you are staying here, we forum members have saved up to buy you your own airline including some red kangaroo stickers for the tail.

By the way, could I buy one of your 44's?

We will all miss you old son if the unthinkable happens.

Fellas, thanks so much for your words of support. i appreciate them all, and will savour them for awhile longer.

My specific problem is my age...only 11 months from being outside of the contract pilot window (and that's rare enough). I owe it to my family to provide the best support possible, so I have to act soon to get a five year contract or risk being frozen out of the market.

Pete F I know shares my dismay at this turn of events. PDW...I agree wih you about seniority, and Japan. And travel. That's how I got to live in Central America, and Ireland, and China, and here. I am running out of continents. :~

To those who have PM'd me...I'll reply from Manila over the weekend. The vanilla gorilla in Manila. That ought to be a movie. Maybe I could get Steve Buschemi Brad Pitt to play me? if he put on some beef?

Greg, disheartened but not dislivered.

Hi GQ,

Tough choices, I'm sure you'll bring a touch of bizarre humor and wit to wherever you choose to land.

Sorry I haven't replied earlier, that job in Austria has hit high gear and I'm trying to learn to live without sleep. zzzzz...

If you get stuck for a job, there's always early retirement.... I can vouch for the fact that being retired is more work than any paid job...

Ray
