Did anyone else notice that he had a 2" x 1 1/2" bowl made from 82 pieces?

What are segmented bowls like with respect to cracking? I would have thought that, with the different expansion coefficients of different woods, they would start to crack apart quite quickly (especially the ones with stone inlay).
