finish for oregon?

hello,
we have been building a house that is almost ready to occupy, and some time ago (after posting on this forum) we coated the exposed oregon beams with Organoil. It brought out the colour nicely. We liked it so much we have had the kitchen made of oregon. But we don't want to use oil on it, we want to use something that is more protective and waterproof. However a test of clear polyeurethane showed that it doesn't bring out the colour like the oil did on the beams, and we would like it to match. Does anyone have any suggestions to try?

Would it be possible to use the oil to bring out the colour and then a coat of clear polyeurethane for protection ..... of course try this on scrap first .... possibly the same thing you should have tried before putting in the kitchen :o Perhaps check Organoils web site about this procedue.

I hadn't thought of it myself but I reckon it woiuld look nice.

Perhaps use the Organoil and then use some dewaxed shellac between the Organoil and lacquer/poly/whatever.

But Garden furniture oil has this use description: Exterior – Preserving and finishing timber garden furniture, spa panelling and may be used on joinery under full verandah protection.
Internal – Timber bench tops and vanities in wet areas ie. bathrooms & laundries. The ingredients in this product best address their needs, though not to be used on flooring.
