large sandpaper sheets

I'm going to be building a 12 inch disc sander for my lathe. I was only going to glue some sandpaper to the wooden disc but I haven't seen sandpaper large enough to cover a 12 inch circle, where do you get it from? Could you use 2 bits of smaller sandpaper to make up the larger diameter?

The Sandpaper Man sells something in this size I think.

My disk is around 200mm and I usually use adhesive backed paper disks. But occasionally I use sheets cut to shape, just to use up some water damaged and creased/folded paper I have. If a straight edge is "exposed" or not glued down (or even a lumpy glueing) I find it can catch easily and shorten it's useful life.

Why not just buy the 12 inch circle already cut? H&F have them for the 305mm disc sanders they sell. Also fuzzy backed if you put a velcro disk on the lathe part.

Petes Bargain Centre Centre Mooroolbark has lots of part rolls to 1 or 1.2m wide, plus a big collection of belts disks etc. Would probably take an hour or so to go through whats there and pick what you want. Belts and disks are sold individually or as groups, some rolls are per metre, others are for the roll as is. Fair variety of grits and materials available.

Otherwise industrial abrasive suppliers (Summabrite in Oakleigh etc) should be able to supply by the metre off the roll, or formed disks to request if you want to order ten or more of a common size, grade and grit.

I bought a few 10m offcuts of various grits of metre wide carborundum from Kilsyth Bargain Centre twenty years ago, still have a fair bit left but haven't seen roll offcuts there for years.

Not sure if you have a carbatec near you but they have 12" discs from 60-320 grit - just checked and they're $8 a pop.

Hello Tiger. Have you seen the Vicmarc attachment for a disc sander that sits in the tool rest banjo? I have one and it is excellent.

Yeah, but tiger is in melbourne like me and the postage from sandpaper man would actually make it more expensive.
We need a sandpaper man here in Melbourne. That would be nice.

So far he is the cheapest I could find
ie Carbatec sells 9" discs for $6 each while this guy sells if for $2.50 or $3.30 each after you add delivery cost
The only downside is that he sells it in packs of 20
Same with sanding belts
this guy sells them for about 3rd of the price..:U
