Another experiment

In 1984 I started a tree planting program on our 6 acre block. One of the first trees planted, was a southern silky oak, (grevillea robusta). That tree grew quickly and so did the house, to the point where they almost met. The tree had to go. In 2010, the tree was removed and converted into blocks for future use. Last week was the time "for the future use". The bowl, though featuring different colours, was made only from timber in that tree, except for the top and the lines.
With this one I wanted to feature the lines only instead of using different timbers for contrast. I think it turned out ok.
The bowl measures 175mm diameter and 180mm high. The little collar on top is ebony and the lines are walnut veneer. A bit different this time. I don't mind it, what do you think?

Hi Powderpost that’s a great piece of wood turning I am not a wood turner but can appreciate art and skill in woodworking.
I have another view of thing’s which is a bit left field of things but never the less in some sort way could be interpreted as some sort of spiritual thing.

I shall now explain what I mean you said that you planted the tree and looked after it all those years it would have been there through all you trials and tribulations good time and maybe bad time's.... not to many I hope anyway it was there and when the time come you cut it down and that’s ok no big deal there.
But what you have done is taken that trees spirit and rebirthed it into a beautiful piece of art and it will stay with you and your family forever ……unless you sell down the bloody markets :doh:

Jim I guess over the years of nurturing, cursing and planning what would be come of that tree you planted, as Colbra said it has spirit and life still just another form.

Is it then possible we also can morph into something as beautiful when our time comes.
