Hi Guys. I've been turning bowls for 3 1/2 years, and enjoy it very much. I got into segmented turning, and would like to use some thin veneer in some of my bowls. The maximum diameter I can turn is 10 inches. How does one go about cutting the veneer to fit my project, and where would a guy get thin veneer to use in the project? Any information, and advice will be appreciated.

I'm sure someone from the USA will be along shortly with info on suppliers in America, but.

Generally veneers are available from wood hobby stores for people who do things like marquetry. Larger quantities (full sheets or book-matched sheets) are available from specialist suppliers. Google is your friend here.

As for cutting it a good straight edge and a sharp craft knife.

Normally you'd use animal glue for veneer as it can be warmed and reset, but for turning purposes I'd recommend yellow (aliphatic) glue.

Look up www.joewoodworker.com (http://www.joewoodworker.com) . Be aware that almost all veneer sold is face quality & you really don't want to pay for 1st quality for veneer inclusion in segmented turnings, when all you are seeing is the end / side grain in the woodturning. Ask for seconds!

Especially Bill as I have run across him around the web and hes a real friendly guy. The other guy I am not so familar with him. But I am sure both will offer some good advice and take some leg work out of the equation.

My only effort to buy veneer is buy off Ebay, it went fine for the small amount I bought.

GMsweeper,

I received your message, and tried to reply, but the system says your mailbox is full.

Unfortunately, I don't have an Excelsior wood lathe, so I won't be able to help with the drive belt question. If I could, I certainly would.

I hope you get replies from someone who can, but do check to make sure your mailbox has room for them.

Good luck and best regards,

Scott
