There's a great story written by Don Brazier on the wharram site just now. Don is the Wharram agent in New Zealand and he writes about his trip to Raratonga, Samoa and Fiji (among other places) on his self built Narai Mark IV Katipo. Don sailed from NZ with Ted Berry as crew for the first leg to Raratonga. Ted built an Ariki in NZ many years ago.

Katipo was modified somewhat and apart from being finished to a very high standard, the boat also looks very practical. The deck pod apparently making a big difference, especially in bad weather:o:2tsup:

Just found some newsreel footage on the net of the Wharram's original flat bottomed 23' 6" Tangaroa in which they crossed the Atlantic in 1955:
