Hi all just thought id introduce myself.
I did woodwork at school and loved it and at 32 am just starting to get back into it again, my first purchase was a cheap chinese lathe off gumtree and had a little fun with it but soon found that it lacked in a lot of ways especially without a chuck, but was lucky enough to be given a second hand mc900 that wasnt working and all it needed was a new switch and i think a new capacitor as it works now buy slowly till i hand spin it and then it fires up normally.
the next big thing that Im ready to purchase is a band saw and was wondering what people think about the LEDA Machinery 18" BS-470.
Bandsaws : 18 inch LEDACRAFT BS-470 BANDSAW (http://www.ledamachinery.com.au/index.php/bandsaws/18-inch-ledacraft-bs-470-bandsaw-detail)
or the Carba-tec SBW-4300CE
Carba-Tec 17" CE Bandsaw : CARBA-TEC (http://www.carbatec.com.au/carba-tec-17-ce-bandsaw_c590)
at the moment Im leaning toword the LEDA as it has a larger motor
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
cheers brad

I have the superseded model of the Leda and have been very happy with it.

I would re post in the BANDSAW group, in hand &power tools, those guy's will be able to advise you.

I have a small bench top unit , however a 14" will do 90% of what you will need, Leda do make a good product, and the larger motor, will be an advantage, .

Look at the spec's of each, and very importantly the, guides, table, ease of maintainance, availability of spare parts, .

Tables made from cast steel and ground flat are best, there is a thread in the Band Saw group , where the table was so warped as to be almost unusable ( this on a new Carba Tec saw).
