Is there a product-based solution for cleaning off dry PVA glu?. In this case its on the surface of some veneer, which was sanded before pressing and hence is already extra thin - so I'm reluctant to sand, scrape or use large quantities of water to clean. I"m wondering if there is a way to just magic off the congealed PVA.

Vinegar.......but be carefull about the timber involved and it getting thru the veneer
Heat....again be carefull.
realy sharp scraper....and be carefull......a fresh virgin stanley knife blade used as a scraper......and don't just thing of the ususal edge being sharp.
the back edge of the blade will have a good bur on one side.
I'd go the scraper.......but......very sharp and bee carefull.

A light soak with vinegar, then remove by scraper. That seems to be the ticket.
