Ueee 14th September 2012, 11:10 PM Another Ouch. Are you still looking for some Mike?
jack620 15th September 2012, 06:20 AM Mike,
It's easy to make your own if you can get hold of Gentian Violet. I'm lucky enough to have a mate who works in a laboratory. Here's my recipe:
125mL metho
4-6 teaspoons shellac flakes
1/2 teaspoon Gentian Violet powder
The Rocol stuff uses a blue food colouring in isopropyl alcohol and acetone (see the MSDS for the name of the colour). If you can't get GV maybe you can get the food colouring?

Auskart 15th September 2012, 07:41 AM Maybe a cheap scate, but for small areas I just use a dark blue or black permanent marker (Texta) and wash it of with thinners.
Graziano 15th September 2012, 09:44 AM I was going to run some experiments with blue food dye from the supermarkets: I have some evaporating in a dish that's almost dry.
morrisman 15th September 2012, 03:39 PM Thanks for the info
I must read the previous thread on this topic, somebody mentioned where to get the Genetian Violet - I think it was on line somewhere . The shellac and metho formula sounds the way to go ...
I've been using Blue texta with reasonable results .
BTW the Prussian blue powder is still available

I use whiteboard dry markers ! I prefer the red ones. It also wipes off quite easily when you've finished.
