how old is that one?
is the motor riged on that one and does the head speed look fast to you Matty?

Jack, I would say 1920's era, the motor could be an afterthought or later adaptation, but a very tidy job, possibly original to the machine, not sure, the ratio from the motor to the head is tall and would probably sound like a jet taking off, this would be a great machine, but your neighbours may disagree.

Reviving an old thread (just to keep stuff together), there's a T Robinson & Son Ltd. thicknesser on Trademe ATM.

The seller says it has 460mm blades and can take up to 178 thick wood - from which I gather it's a Robinson No.2 size 'BZ' thicknesser - which has an 18" x 7" capacity - and requires a 6bhp motor and weighs in at about 14cwt (~3/4 tonne).

I think Matty's cut (above) shows the 24" model (No.1 size - 24" x 7" capacity and requiring a 7bhp motor).

407619 407610

407611 407606 407609 407608 407607

407617 slightly modified.
407614 407615 407616 407618 407613 407612

If it was in the same island; if it hadn't taken me a year to de-rust and titivate a working bandsaw; if I had the room; and if the price didn't go silly - I'd be in (but that's 4 "ifs"). And I'm not too keen on that square head either :C.

Anyhow, enjoy.

Cheers, Vann.

Moderators. Any chance of moving this thread to "Antique and Vintage Machinery" (f299)? That's where most vintage machinery buffs hang out these days.

Cheers, Vann.

It failed to sell. Seller wants a grand for it. A bit high I think, for a machine with no motor, that's looks like it's been stored in the rain for a while...

Relisted.

Cheers, Vann.

Yeah a grand seems a bit optimistic for something that's been out in the elements for so long. I've seen full functioning units selling for not much more.

Yeah a grand seems a bit optimistic for something that's been out in the elements for so long...Hmm... failed to sell again.
So the seller lists at a starting bid of $600. Nobody bids, so he offers it for $1000. Am I missing something? If nobody wants it at $600, why might they want it for $1000? This time he's offered it for $1200. The more people DON'T bid, the higher it's value...http://d1r5wj36adg1sk.cloudfront.net/images/smilies/actions/doh.gifhttp://d1r5wj36adg1sk.cloudfront.net/images/smilies/actions/doh.gifhttp://d1r5wj36adg1sk.cloudfront.net/images/smilies/actions/doh.gif

He's probably had a bunch of offers under his asking price and thinks that if he ups the price maybe their offers will come up too. Even $600 would be too much for me, I'll only slightly beat scrap prices for rustbuckets like this. Just too many things that can go wrong.
