G'day all,
Some of you will shake your head at this, but if its wood, I have a crack at turning it. I don't necessarily know what type it is, mostly because I rescue stumps, off cuts, etc....which have long since departed from its easier to identify tree stage.
ie, today, went for a drive to two spots. one was where an old house is being renovated and got some great hardwood, the second spot was to an 100yo Queenslander that had recently needed re-stumping, so got some very nice heavy, very dry, ready to turn blocks.
Has anyone come across a picture gallery or something that helps identify timbers by their grain, colour, characteristics, maybe weight? Preferably from around QLD, but Australia in general.
OR, should we maybe have a crack of creating it in these forums, for everyone else that might come after scratching their noggin as to what wood they have ;-)
Thanks in advance!
Daniel.
