A similar thread was started a few years ago by Sir Stinkalot. Simple really, just tell us the name of the band AND the name of the album. First correct answer gets to post the next album/cd cover. This thread may die a quick death, but it could also be a bit of fun.

I probably should know this one, but what's throwing me off is it's the same cat in each image - just with different hair. Hmmm, maybe they were brothers - can't be the Osmonds, they weren't into hallucinogenic mushrooms (or Roger Dean - if the cover was by him). Best I can do is estimate that it's English.

EDIT: Actually, scrap that suggestion - on closer inspection it's not Roger Dean art at all.

Grumpy John

Think San Francisco, late 60's. Definitely not The Osmonds.

The band is said to have been named after a street brand of LSD and promoted by renowned LSD chemist and former Grateful Dead patron, Owsley Stanley.

Just watched the clip, and the drummer is the closest thing to Cousin It that I have ever seen! He only has to close up that one inch gap at the front to be the real deal.

There must have been a lot of car accidents around that period, and I don't mean due to drugs. Their peripheral vision is shot!

Scott

Most of their music came from the late 60's and early 70's. They're not an English band however they tried to make it big in the UK with moderate success.

Just by way of interlude (while we wait for another clue from Scott), I found this in my searching:

Ayer's Rock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGzi0bF5Jc8&feature=related) with the fabulous Mark Kennedy on Drums. I saw them live a few times, and at the end they had a percussionist (who I also saw playing with Kevin Borich a few times). Man, talk about adding a new dimension.

If you watch that, then you should also take in Catchanemu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBgDe2CJswI&feature=related).

No video for either, but pretty good sound qual (use your headphones and turn it UP).

hihihh I ALWAYS have a song in my head, and you can tell that I was born pre 70s coz like a vinyl record they always get stuck.

About 6 weeks ago I had the worst case ever with Won't Get Fooled Again (and you have no idea how much I want that to trigger someone else into it with just the mere mention of it:D). Anyway, you know how it finishes with those four chopped chords followed by a power chord (all the same chord - A major I think)...well every time it got to that (this is in my wee head you understand), Ken Pete Townshend would hold that last chord for a while, and then the bastard would launch into the whole bloody thing again!

I kid you not, this went on for about 3 weeks and it ended up driving me crackers. Just dozing off to sleep, yup, long systain on A Major, and around we went again.

I have a standby track that I play (in the head) when this happens, and that's the opening track of Ten Summoner's Tales (If I Ever Lose My Faith In You). Very often this does the trick because for some reason this song can break the looping. Go figure.

That album took me by storm when it was released. I remember driving down to Picton one night to see John Williamson and I was playing it in the car (which had after market sound, with a subwoof) for the second time AND I WAS HOOKED MAN! Many years later I got hold of the DTS version and that is just a superb production. The bottom end is bloody wicked! Vinnie Colluata's (sp?) snare has a vicious crack to it.

Sorry, a bit OT and meandering.

Another minor clue:
This album (as the previous 5) all went gold in the UK, so they weren't obscure by any means. Lead singer also had an extensive solo career. "Keyboards" player had an extensive solo career (but a little more obscure) and was in Oz a few years ago promoting an amazing light show in Sydney (using the whole Cityscape and Harbour).
