Thought it was about time I posted some of my work. A few of my spinning tops with a very nice gift from Mike & Cynthia Gibson from the USA.

I love making tops, I think they are good practice and it is always fun to try to get them to spin longer and to look better. These are great looking tops and are something to aspire to.

I have seen these tops in person, the detail and accuracy of the laminates in the making of them is superb. They are indeed a collectors item. :2tsup:

Very nice, any chance of getting a WIP of how you do them?

Thank you for the great responses.

The process of making the blanks for the tops is covered by Israeli turner Eli Avisera in his <st1:stockticker>DVD</st1:stockticker>’s. I use a slightly different technique than he does. The joinery is not that unique or special it’s just the accuracy you need to work too to have them look any good. The cutting of the main body can be done on a table saw, router table or even on the lathe with an appropriate setup. Some blanks can only be done on the lathe or a router lathe setup.
