Meterage conversion

Hi all,

I plan on building a deck out the back of the house using 83x19 jarrah boards.
Perhaps, someone can tell me how many Linear metres of timber there are to a Square metre, so that i can work out what quantity to order.
I was hoping that someone might be be able to pass on a simple conversion equation.

Without allowing for the gaps between the boards, the answer to your question would be 1000/83 = 12 linear metres, near enough.

Do you happen to know what is the "preferred" gap between the boards?
I was told 3mm but have no idea wether this is correct or not.

3mm is too tight, 6mm works well, just use a drill bit as a spacer.
