Got that email this morning, my eyes nearly popped out, $US499.99 in the US, what would that cost here? Close to $A1000 I am guessing.

They have been discussing it on a few American sites for about a fortnight and the reaction is the same.

Come on Pat not much different to price of a Vicmarc and you know you want at least 3 of them one for each size.:p

Like the jaw action one handed use but note he did not push bowl in. quick change jaws cool not sure I like the look of them though.

There some innovative aspects to this chuck, such as the speed ring and the ease of jaw change. But given the exchange on some of the sites overseas the price is the killer as has pointed out.
Its probably about time the chucks had some design change after all they have been around since the middle 80's. By the look of it they are made in the USA, hence the price. But given that they should of excellent quality.

Given that I several SN2 chucks I am more or less tied to this brand for the fore see able future, unless theres a price drop :U

Then there is the postage, ouch! Had a 5kg chuck thyat wasn't available in OZ sent from Craft Supplies many years ago, cost $130 in postage.

Doubt that it will come with a 30 x 3.5 insert which is a common spindle thread in Aus but not the US.

They look good, but at that price maybe they will include a 30x3.5 adaptor for FREE (HaHa). By the way add another $70-80 for postage.
It is beyond me that they think that hobby turners are going to pay such sums. Their chisels are pretty exee too. Drillit.

There are a lot of cashed-up US turners Drillit, esp. ones with patriotic purchasing habits.

The pics show a nicely finished unit. Yes, the tools are exxy but apart from some early glitches with handle strength are well made.

Declaration: I was given some EW tools to review and keep several years ago.

Most of the Easywood tools are available from KATools (http://www.katools.co.nz/), if interested in this chuck I'm sure he can arrange, postage would be a lot cheaper and the NZ$ can be an advantage.

The quick change jaws may be a first, but otherwise the chuck is not that innovative. Not sure if you can get them for woodturning chucks, but spare sets of jaw slides permanently attached to jaws sets would probably be just as quick, and maybe cheaper.

The Vicmarc VM150 chuck has had the dual action option for some time and it provides a far greater range of jaws (up to 223mm) for less A$s, although still exy.

As for the rounded jaw shoulders, 5 mins at the grinder will do that!

Their jaws also cost more than their competitors.

And, as pointed out, no 30 x 3.5mm option.

I have to say if I was given one for chtistmass I would be a happy turner but that is more than twice what I paid for a Nova 2. The eazy money chuck perhaps.
