Hello Mr. Sandpaperman,
Have just bought a heap of siafast sandpaper from you and am using it on my drum sander with a velcro hookup. Working well.

There is another type of sandpaper on the site specifically for drum sanders

dark reddish brown stuff and its labelled as being "Ideal for drum sanders"
Why is one ideal for drum sanders and the other not ?
I dont know anything about sandpaper, are there any web pages you can point me to that would help me to better understand the technical specs of the different sandpapers and why one type is better than another for a particular application ?

Further to our previous email correspondence prior to this thread on the forum, there are various types of drum sanders.
The most popular drum sander uses cloth-backed abrasive wrapped spirally around the drum, and held with a spring clamping mechanism at one or both ends. With this type of drum sander, the article to be sanded passes underneath the sanding drum on a feed mat. Another type of drum sander, which is growing in popularity for a different purpose of use (lighter work), utilises velour-backed sandpaper, which is spirally attached to a velcro drum. With this type of sander, the article to be sanded passes over the top of the drum manually, and is less aggressive in it's removal, hence velour-backed sandpaper is able to be used for this application. If these rolls are not the correct width for your requirements, other widths can be ordered at your required width.
Velour-backed rolls are not listed as specifically for drum sanders, as they have other applications as well, including but not limited to, cutting delta shaped sanding sheets, cutting discs for bowl sanding, cutting sheets for a velcro block, using on fairing boards for yachts, etc.
With velour-backed sandpaper, the options for different types of abrasive grains is limited to mainly aluminium oxide and either stearate coated (non-clogging), or non-stearated, and is also limited to a couple of different weight paper backings.

The variety of abrasives available in roll form is endless, as is the grit range. And if you can't find a suitable grade or material listed, we can order it for you.

Thanks for the clarification.
Am using the velcro / velour combination but my drum is overhead - seems to be working just fine.
Thanks for the note about Zirconia being ideal for hardwood and the greater variety available in cloth backed as opposed to velour backed.

Is it expensive to ship to Canada? Is there a US counterpart? I need some hook and loop velcro rolls for my drum sander. Both sides the hook and the loop.
Curious, which one is glued or attached to the drum?

It's pretty expensive to ship from Canada, not sure about to. Hopefully The Sandpaper Man will know.
Dunno about a US counterpart.
My drum sander uses a clip each end instead of velcro, but in the case of my disc sander, the 'furry' one is attached to the paper, because it's not so long lasting. (Not sure which is hook and which is loop.)
