Hi shero :)

Put simply - In woodwork, intarsia is the cutting (usually with a scrollsaw or bandsaw) and shaping of individual pieces of timber of varying thicknesses to create a picture - sort of like a 3D jigsaw puzzle. The pieces are then glued to a timber backer.

Hi shero,

I just read in an Intarsia book the other day that the word is derived from latin(?) for 'to insert'.

Have a look at this Australian site. There is also a free pattern with instructions, for you to try.
