Stehle bits

I don't suppose anyone knows if the Stehle bits that were available from SawAndBits (now defunct) are solid carbide or if it was just the tips?

I've got a couple of small single fluted ones that I was thinking of making a burnisher out of and for the few bucks they cost at the time I got them it wouldn't be much of a sacrifice.

Solid tungsten carbide bits are noticeably heavier than steel...so if the bit has more heft than you expect...

The smallest brazed carbide bit I've seen has been about 5mm...smaller than that and it seems to be easier to make them out of solid carbide.

You could always see if you can scratch the shaft with hardened steel I suppose!

Good idea. The smallest I have is 4mm so I *might* be in luck.

The bits of small diameter are made in integral hm, for the problems of welding and heating.
