Advance Power Hacksaw

Picked up an Advance power Hacksaw, I am guessing these machines came with built in coolant pump. Does anyone know type of pump and where it was fitted on this machine.

Hi and welcome. Nice looking saw. But I would be doubtful it ever had coolant, unless it was a retrofit. Do you see evidence of it?

Rigging up a coolant pump would not be difficult. Depends on how much you plan to use it. A gravity fed dripper bottle above the cut would go a long way.

If the tray under the blade has an outlet then it would at one stage had a coolant system, but I very much doubt that it did.
I have seen some machines like this, that used a fuel pump (similar to Holden red/grey motors), that ran off a cam on one of the shafts. To set one up if it was required, (doubtful in a home workshop), drill and tap for an outlet in the tray under the blade, probably need 10mm, run a hose from there to a catch tin, then a hose to the pump, from the pump another hose with a tap to control the flow. The catch tin would need the pick up for the pump about 75 mm from the bottom so that it didn't pick up any swarf/shavings, it would also need access to the top to empty it out when swarf/shavings has built up. A lobe for a cam is easily made by cutting a bit of solid bar 40-50mm dia. about 25mm long and drilling 2 holes one for the shaft diameter and the other for a locking screw/pin.

Or just use a cheap aquarium pump as can be found on EvilBay. 10 litre plastic bucket with lid. Raise the pump up off the floor as Kryn says. Use 3mm poly tube (garden section) to direct flow and PVC tube for supply and return.

Or use an el-cheapo parts cleaner and a kitchen strainer.

Hi adowsett1,
I have the CMC version of your Hacksaw and they did have a pump as shown below. It fitted in the reservoir under the rocker arm and the plunger is spring loaded so as the rocker arm moves up and down this caused the pumping action. The second coolant chamber has a hole to allow the coolant to flow back.
The pump on the Hacksaw I have has not been used for some time and would suggest that you look at fitting a coolant pump like the others have said as it would be more efficient than the original.

If you have a look at this thread http://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/bandsaw-update-139691/ you will find some more detail on the methods used by myself and others. There would be other threads as well but this is one I know of. If you search on google you will find more ideas. I have only searched for bandsaws but the principal is very similar.
