Hi all,

These are probably incredibly stupid questions but I have to ask,

What exactly happens at men sheds? can semi-skilled, eager-to-learn women, like myself attend too? Are there any in the south east Melbourne suburbs? And how can I go about joining them?

I am new to this awesome site and would love to know more about them to hopefully one day become a part of one. All advice is appreciated thank you.

Yes they will let you join.
And they have the equipment and people to help you.
You can find with this web page.
AMSA - Find A Shed (http://www.mensshed.org/find-a-shed/.aspx)
I know of waverley woodworkers near chadstone
Knox in ferntree gully
Berwick has one as well.

Go and have a look at a few and see what they can and can't do.

I go to knox wood workers in Ferntree gully. Quite a few women there. And lots of different groups doing different things. Even a furniture making group concentrating on using hand tools.

I should imagine there is a site with a list of them all. My understanding is there are 2 main streams of incorporations known as 'Men's Shed'
There would no doubt be a number in the area you refer to.
Most I believe welcome anyone.

As for skills and objectives that changes somewhat from shed to shed and according to the running committee. Some sheds are full of highly skilled individuals others are made up with very few who have a skilled back ground. Possibly visiting a few sheds in your area you may find one that you prefer.

Generally they are made up of older men who have retired. One advantage to this group of individuals is the immense wealth of knowledge and experience they have had.

Just noticed, fly has given you a link
