Hi all, I just had to show you this Red gum vase, the colour and the figure in it is just amazing, hope the photos do it justice. It measures 6 1/2" x 4" high. Cheers Harry. 275177 275179275178275180275181Can I ask, what are your thoughts on filling in cracks, like on the top of this vase, I feel that a filled in crack is even less natural. And nature's not perfect anyway. I don't know, just thinking aloud.

Man...what you turners can do with lumps of firewood blows me away every single time.
Lovely stuff :2tsup:

Lovely stuff :2tsup: Funny you should say that Redshirtguy, this was the last piece of red gum my brother was saving for his fireplace before I err, borrowed it.:rolleyes:Chuck I after sanding to 1200 grade, I polished it with
U-beaut EEE-ultra shine and
U-beaut Shellawax Friction polish.

Yum, beautiful grain and finish :2tsup:

Take another look at finish in a week or two, then let us know how it is going, red-gum can suck up the best of finishes

I hope the finish stays as it is dai sensei, I haven't left a way for this vase to be remounted on the lathe to redo it.

Yes, stunning finish. Redgum is the nastiest of timbers to move and warp, I always finish Redgum with some sort of oil (Danish perhaps?) to minimise the warp factor.
