One for Bluegum,
I turn hundreds of these "Eco Tops" as practice in using the spindle gouge, skew and Sorby Spindlemaster with the aim of no sanding at all. The stock is standard grade Porta tas oak 12.5mm dowel and 42x42mm radiata pine. I usually do 10 or so using all these tools 1" & 1/2" skew plus the spindlemaster & spindle gouge, then do 10 or so only with the 1/2" skew; or the spindle gouge; or the spindlemaster etc & no other tools or sandpaper. The Sorby spindlemaster is by far my preference for the finish cuts for both the square and swell style cuts - far less grain tearout than with the skew.
