Some time back, about 20 odd years I was given the root ball of a black palm. Yesterday I tripped over it and in retribution I put it in the lathe to get even. :~ The centre of the piece was fairly soft but the bottom section was fairly solid. The outside turned ok, quite hard and very splintery and hard on the tools. The inside was a pita.

Forgot to mention it measures 140mm high and 150mm diameter. I had to finish the post quickly because the grand kids brought their parents over for lunch.

Hi Ogato, this stuff varies so widely in grain density, I didn't use any grain filler. It has only had two sprayed coats of Mirrotone lacquer. Probably will look better if I flatten off the lacquer with 0000 steel wool.

Jim very nice bowl, love the inside & rim. :2tsup: I don't feel so bad now - none of my timber has been sitting around for 20 years.
