Doing a makers mark - chemical burning

I have seen the issue of how to do makers marks or repeating patterns discussed here several times, but I don't think I've seen this idea. Apologies if its common knowledge.

I do wonder just how bad for your health it is to work with ammonium chloride. Any thoughts ?

My "Mark" cost me about a dollar. I use it on all my wood carvings.
20 or 25cm nail ($0.50), Dremel and a couple of HD cut-off disks (#420).
Flatted the nail head. Drew my mark (RV) backwards on the surface with fine felt marker.
800 grit W&D sandpaper makes a great eraser for lousy printing!
Carved the steel. Added a nice wooden handle.
Propane bottle torch, test on a scrap of that particular wood (they all cook diffrerently.)

The diamond willow furniture shop down my street uses 3 of the LV custom marks.
I must admit, they really are nice but they admit it's hard to get the heat just right.
