Record power hood

Hi all,
I have a record powered hood/face shield that I bought quite a few years ago and the battery pack is stuffed does anyone know how I can go about replacing it. I haven't seen these for a long time it is similar to the trend unit self contained with the battery pack mounted to the rear of the head strap. I had wondered about a replacement battery pack I haven't opened my battery pack as it has 2 screws in the top of the unit but it also appears to be glued and I don't want to damage it by trying to force it open so I thought I would ask the question before I get to serious in the opening of this pack. Any advise would be welcome.

Hi Rod,
A few years ago there was the same trouble down in Geelong, Vic.
A Young chap had the idea of using a Transformer that plugs into the Power Point.
(Got to get the right one?) Ran a lead from the Helmet, with a Plug on its end, & a corresponding one from the Trany.
So you either remove the Helmet from your Head, or you unplug the Cables.
These were very small, just like the ones from the Trany.

Try contating Akkupak.I think they claim they can repack any battery pack. They advertise in Australian Woodworker.

I shall try to find the add thank you for the information.
I have thought about another power source but I am unsure what the power rating for the battery pack is any clues on how to find out I figured if I opened the pack I might be able to tell but as stated I haven't got to serious with opening the pack as it is glued closed I didn't want to get to hard handed with it before I got some feed back as to the best way to go about it.

I have the Trend & Purelite PARP's that have the batteries in the temple region & did not like the slow charge rate, battery cost or weight. So I made up some aux battery packs from readily available parts from Dick Smith back then. Jaycar or other electronic parts suppliers woul have them too. All I needed for the Trend was a 3xAA battery pack, spiral two core lead (12v power extension cord), and matching male/female RCA plugs for the Trends fittings. Then a few minutes with a soldering iron, and a sleve pocket on the turning jacket & I was away. Now I can use any brand/technology battery that approximates the Trends battery pack specs and have the benefit of off the shelf batteries with fast charging and relocated some of the weight.

This is along the lines that I am thinking but being electrically challenged I don't want to stuff up the motor how can I tell what power is required, I cannot see any mention of how many volts this unit operates on any clues.

Have you got a model number & the correct brand so that you can search for a manual or specifications on the intynet? You may have to open the battery pack to find out if you can't get details or the motor may have an operating voltage on it. The Trend / Purelites run at 3.6v = 3 x AA NiCD or NiMH.

Hi mobyturns and all,
I contacted record power and was told they were supplied by a third party company that has since been taken over and then they were taken over again by another company so getting any help there has been impossible the motor and battery pack have no markings as to the voltage so I guess I will have to crack open the battery pack to find out what the power supply is.
