BM30 - Manual Feed Handwheel question

On my BM30 the Manual Feed Handwheel is very loose and flops around, it is usable if pressure is kept on it.

I was in H&F a while ago and asked about it but they said this was normal.

Would anyone else with this machine please let me know if they have also experienced this please.

Hi Dennis,

I assume you're talking about the quill micrometer feed?
Every clone I have seen has a roll pin in the handwheel. I cant see a hole for it to go into in the pictures on H&F site but it could be hidden. Is there a roll pin in the handwheel?

Hi Stuart

There is a pin on the handwheel which fits in a hole on the mill, that is no problem and I can move the spindle by rotating the wheel.

My problem is that when the wheel is placed over the 'feed reverse knob' and the pin inserted into the hole the wheel is very floppy (technical term).

To use the handwheel you have to keep a pressure on the wheel to hold it in position and if I am cutting something I don't want to have to be thinking about holding the handwheel in position.

I asked H&F about it and they say this is normal so I was getting other peoples experiences.

oh ok. I havent used a BM50 but "floppy" isnt a word I would use for clones I have used.(the huge total of 4 lol)
As best I recall the one on my mill once engaged says that way, even when other machining is being done. When disengaged I think it has fallen off once. But thats not a lot of help to you. There are at least a couple of BM50 owners here with luck they will turn up soon.
