I am at the stage of thinking about what finish to put on a new work bench I have made. I want something
non slippery
non toxic
that will make it easy to get glue of the top

Perhaps no finish
or tung oil
shellac

What would be best? I am really happy with the way it is coming on and I do not want to ruin it with the wrong finish.

Only thing I can think of that fits the bill is Raw Linseed Oil.

But i'd be tempted to hit it up a notch and use Boiled Linseed instead, it dries faster.

I give mine a wipe over with the Kunos oil I use on my work. Mainly to make it easy to remove glue, but looks good too.

I favour BLO every time.

Dries without being sticky and easy to refresh if it gets marked.

BLO is the go for work benches. Linseed oil has been used for benches for many hundreds of years so why go for anything else.

No finish needed, just get to work, the bench will tell you what it needs in due course if at all!
