Make awesome tool stands!

Those little bench stands with two winders that you can clamp stuff between or on using the plastic bench dogs.

I have 2 and use one as a stand for my Disc/belt sander and the other one for my Compound Mitre Saw.

Since I don't have a dedicated workshop and have to move things around, these stands are ideal and fairly sturdy. Not recommended for Scroll Saws though or porbably several other tools that produce excessive vibration...

I clamp the tools down with a few G-clamps.

Just a suggestion if anyone is looking for a small stand for any of their tools. At $25 each, you can't go wrong! especially when some machine stands are flogged off for a couple hundred dollars and aren't much different.

Plus, you can also use them as saw horses and for a variety of other handy uses.
Can get them from most hardware shops.

Had one for a least 20 years a Black & Decker Work Mate. Used to use it for everything. It's a bit worse for wear now and has been pinched by one of my sons who uses it almost daily.

Cost a hell of a lot more than $25 when it was new.

Yep, the B&D Workmate is a little pricier, but is a little more solid too http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/smile.gif

Useful benches though indeed!

I got mine for $20 from, believe it or not, one of those Warehouse/Clint's Crazy Bargains/Reject Shop stores.
Had to assemble them, and they are cheap and nasty, but they do what they do.

I have two, a Black and Decker Workmate (made in Slovenia of all places) and a mystery brand one from China. The B&D one is absolutely miles better. if the Chinese one cost $20 then the B&D is worth $80 or more. The Chinese one tilts its tables back when tightened onto a workpiece (due to slack in the mountings), for some things this is a real nuisance and causes the workpiece to twist in the device. The B&D has no such vices. And I usually hate Black and Decker stuff, too.
Chris.
