Hi Guys
I have a Carbatec lathe MC-1018 and I have just purchased my first chuck for it, the Nova G3 50mm.
My aim was to turn small objects with a diameter of 10 to 20 mms and was told this chuck would make it possible!

As I have already turned a few to the size of a wooden spoon handle size and wanted to finish it without it flying off the the two centres, a chuck was the natural progression :)
While the Nova G3 seems to grab in the centre of the hole but not with the jaws supplied I'm a little unsure.

So anyways if you can help thanks a lot:)
Can i finish the turning without the sliding jaws?
Or do I need to purchase an added mini 20mm or Spigot jaws?

Confused bunny here :bunny3:

teknatool have a great range of jaws. there will be something to suit the diameter you need they brought out mini jaw set and have just released a 2 jaw set for Pen blanks! sorry I don't have product codes

If 10-20 mm diameter is your aim there are a few things you might want to consider

In terms of teknatool jaws themselves

But note that 10mm really is the minimum that these jaws can grip in contracting mode for round stock to maximum 31 mm
CWS Store - JSPin Pin Jaws | Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies (http://www.cws.au.com/shop/item/jspin-pin-jaws)
NOVA PIN JAW SET (http://teknatool.com/products/Chuck_Accessories/Pin.htm)

The mini spigot jaws is the other option from teknatool - in this case for round stock the range is 8 - 30 mm diameter
CWS Store - Nova Mini Spigot Jaws | Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies (http://www.cws.au.com/shop/item/nova-mini-spigot-jaws)
NOVA Mini Jaws Package (http://teknatool.com/products/Chuck_Accessories/Mini_jaw_set.htm)

Also look at the Zero jaws from sorby which will fit the tecknatool chuck
CWS Store - Robert Sorby Patriot Zero Jaws | Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies (http://www.cws.au.com/shop/item/robert-sorby-zero-jaws)
minimum size looks like 3mm diamater but i dont think i have seen the maximum diameter specified

Other options for round stock

CWS Store - Vicmarc Collet Chuck Set | Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies (http://www.cws.au.com/shop/item/vicmarc-collet-chuck-set)
Which includes a range of collets to suit a range of diameters using ER32 collets 5- 20mm

Then there is also the following pen mandrel which can act as a chuck for ER20 collets ) but only includes one collet for gripping the pen mandrel and i think the maximum diameter it can handle is 13 mm cause thats the biggest collet you can get.
CWS Store - Delux Collet Pen Mandrel 2mt | Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies (http://www.cws.au.com/shop/item/delux-collet-pen-mandrel-2mt)

Thanks guys
You have confirmed that I was looking in the right place :)
So I'll just buy a Nova mini spigot jaws
TeknatoolŪ Nova Mini Spigot : CARBA-TEC (http://www.carbatec.com.au/teknatool-nova-mini-spigot_c21932)
While it is $2 more at Carbatec than CWS I dont need to pay the freight charge:D
The Robert Sorby Patriot Zero Jaws looks good but is almost as costly as the chuck I have purchased! :o
Cheers

another 2 alternatives are a drill chuck for 13mm and smaller or turn a Morse taper to suit your lathe headstock both require extra Timber for the job but can be handy!
