I was given this blank by a fellow member, whom will remain nameless. He mentioned that he wasn't game to turn the blank, due to the faults in the blank. I had a look and thought it might be possible and said so, thus I was given the blank.

The faults on the top necessitated use of a 200mm (8") faceplate and #12 50mm (2") screws. One of the screws failed to secure, thus the 75mm screw.

Turning the outside was good, I had pre honed 5 chisels and used all 5 in 10 minutes.

After a break and another honing session, I turned the blank around. 3 chisels for about 5 minutes work. Bark inclusions, punky rot and blinking hard bits played havoc with the edges. I relented and used my Oland tools to hollow out and scrapers to clean up.

I think that effort can be safely described as dogged perseverance.

Good end result as well.

Hum being Pat gave me some of this to turn I'll be very careful then again li9ke Pat whats life without a challenge.:U

Pat that side looks strange the way the grain runs into the centre give the illusion it has been carved out love the colour and look again on THAT side. B goo to see the OTHER side also.:q
