Quality Screws to buy ?

Im doing a re-fit and make over of my hardwhare cupboard , im sick of trying to find a few screws that have somehow got lost when you need them , so ive decided to go through what ive got and re stock all the missing sizes so i have a handfull at least of all sizes, i dont want to get zenith ones (small ones seem to strip out on me) so i was wondering where others might get in say small boxes of 100 or so quality wood screws from ?:) ive just been online looking at scrooz website feedback on them ??

Yep, me too, I only buy square drives (Robertson) from the Guys in Melbourne. I give them hell (the screws not the dealers) and they never fail.

I also like the square drive screws, but I am a little more catholic in my preferences - any of the centre-drive screws are good - virtually anything but strait slotted screws - only buy them when there is no alternative.

My other screw preferences are:

Torx - with the six-pointed star drive.
Torx security - same as above but with a pimple in the middle of the drive hole so a standard torx screw driver will not work. *****
Philips - the original and most readily available centre drive. Has sloping sides so the screw driver should jump out if you apply too much torque.


Buying screws in small packets from Big-Chains usually means that you get crap screws at exhorbitant prices. Fastening specialists are the way to go - most of mine are from Nuts & Bolts in Hobart - and quantity discounts kick in rather quickly. I try to use a limited range of sizes and buy by the box!

***** When buying a torx screw driver always buy the security-type driver. It will work for both torx security and torx standard screws. But not the reverse.

I have used Spax as well as Square drive and both are very good. In fact for some purposes I think Spax are streets ahead. They use a Torx drive head I always found the service to be good.

I've bought a bunch of square drive decking screws off of these guys, everything showed up quickly and the price was certainly right.

For longer screws square is the ants pants I reckon. Am contemplating buying the 2000 piece trade case just so I can get rid of all the little packets and crap floating around my screw bucket currently.
