View Full Version : Bowl Of Unknown Wood

This is another practice bowl that I have created. I have no idea what type of wood this is just that I am guessing it to be some sort of eucalyptus. The bark was very thin about 2 - 3mm and greyish in colour. This piece was cracked and my original though was to mount in the lathe to turn the crack out.

I turned the bottom with a tenon and placed in the chuck. I started hollowing the bowl and stopped once the crack stopped. I turned it over and mounted it in cole jaws and got rid of the tenon. I guess we shall see how it stands up over time.

Very nice! You could put some CA right where the cracks start to see if it might arrest any further cracking.

I use CA that comes in a metal tube and has a long thin spout that will put a little at a time in a small space.

Is this first bowl on NEW lathe :U

Looks good some CA or epoxy coloured would be good
